Vieux Carré
Stir with ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
¾ oz rye whiskey (2 cl)
¾ oz cognac (2 cl)
¾ oz sweet vermouth (2 cl)
1 tsp Benedictine
2 dashes Peychauds bitters
2 dash Angostura bitters
Garnish with a cherry
Serve in a rocks glass (6.0 oz)
Notes:
This cocktail was supposedly created by the New Orleans bartender Walter Bergeron(Head bartender at the Hotel Monteleon) in 1938. The cocktail's name Vieux Carre is French for "the Old Square", which is name for the "French Quarter" in New Orleans.
